Approval of November 2022 Minutes
The minutes from the November 2022 SCC meeting were approved unanimously.
School Improvement Plan Goals
Mr. Jacobson provided an update on progress toward the SIP goals.
Principal’s Report
Mr. Jacobson discussed anticipated use of LAND Trust funds to support Ms. Miriam, who provides additional academic support to students. He also discussed developing talking points related to the Salt Lake School District’s proposed plan to evaluate schools for potential closure.
School Board Report
Ms. Anderson discussed the process that the Salt Lake School District will be using to select the next superintendent and encouraged all parents to complete a survey that the District is sending out. The School Board will review the results of the survey during its February 2023 meetings
PTA Report
Ms. McBrier noted that the PTA continues to remain active across the Ensign community and is focused primarily on the Spring Gallery Stroll, which is one of Ensign’s most popular events.

SIC Report
Ms. Kean reported that the SIC continue to work on the SIP goals, and that the overall engagement of the faculty and staff remains high.
School Improvement Plan Goals
Mr. Jacobson provided an update on progress toward the SIP goals.
Principal’s Report
Mr. Jacobson noted that the school community is looking forward to the holidays, which includes holiday concerts at Ensign and the Mountain America Expo Center.
School Board Report
In anticipation of Ms. Anderson taking office in January 2023, she offered her continued support to the Ensign community as a resource and expressed an interest in attending future SCC meetings.
PTA Report
Ms. McBrier noted that the PTA continues to remain active across the Ensign community and is assisting with holiday concerts, classroom events, the 2023 STEAM Fair, the Salt Lake Center for Science and Education, and the Curriculum and Assessment Program Open House.
General Discussion
There was a brief discussion about the calendar for subsequent academic years. Mr. Jacobsen will distribute the calendars and we will decide whether the SCC needs to meet in December to approve a calendar option.

HB 58 Report – SEL at Ensign
Ms. Toney presented a comprehensive HB 58 pan to ensure that all students at Ensign remain drug free.
SIC Report
Ms. Kean provided some background on the role of the SIC. She noted that the SIC is working on the Science Fair and preparing for the Halloween parade.
School Improvement Plan Goals
Mr. Jacobson presented the SIP goals, which are attached to these minutes. SCC supports the SIP goals and they will be presented to the SIC for approval following this SCC meeting. The SCC will discuss further and approve at the next scheduled meeting.
Principal’s Report
Mr. Jacobson noted that the 2022-2023 year is off to an outstanding start and that students, faculty and staff are engaged. With the addition of an assistant principal, Ensign will be able to focus even further on developing students into lifelong learners and good citizens.
General Discussion
The consensus was that the SCC needs to recruit additional members. Mr. Jacobson will assist by sending out an announcement through his weekly communications. The SCC agreed to meet the 4th Monday of every month, excepting months with conflict or holidays. PTA and School Committee membership should be in attendance.
